At a recent distributor meeting on the island of Fuerteventura , Bjorn Dunkerbeck took centre stage to launch the bew 2007 range of North Sails. Already established as the largest sailmaker in the world, the North development team, led by Kai Hopf have been busy refining all the sails across the ranges.
Kai introduces a number of new innovations this year :-
- the new immodular design, a concept that effectively reinforces the outside frame of the sail making them even stronger but retaining the low weight;
- the hyper leech II & modified TT_TOP outline improves the upper leech twist;
- reduced batten angles increase the wind range and;
- new XPly 112 on centre panels - material now used for upper central sail panels which has double the yarn density = double the strength

North have always prided themselves on strength and durability - being one of the first brands to introduce a 5 year warranty. And this year the concept is taken one step further. The use of monofilm has been reduced, particularly on the smaller Dukes and heavyweight reinforcements, double seams are all standard - ensuring that these sails are ready for the harshest of conditions.
And that's what Dunkerbeck proved - after a brief session on the water to show off these sails to the max, it was off to Gran Canaria and Pozo for the next round of the PWA.
