JP Australia Freestyle III 2007 hits the water

Ricardo makes freestyle look easy on the new JP Freestyle Pros. New boards and innovations for 2007.

Developed jointly by the triple world freestyle champion Ricardo Campello and Werner Gnigler, the chief shaper at JP Australia, the Freestyle 2007 is now in its 3rd year of development. This year it keeps the general broad outline characteristics of the 2006 models - but there are some new innovations on closer inspection.

First up and the board has taken on a slightly wider and thicker appearance - the volume has been distributed more evenly throughout - whilst keeping the compact shape. This means the boards stay balanced throughout any kind of freestyle manouvre.

Secondly, the rails and water release edges have also been worked on this year - thinner rails are evident throughout which combined with the outline shape makes for good speed through carving moves.

The under-side of the Freestyle range also gets a makeover with a new channel design and shorter flat section underneath which effectively reduces the wetted area. Not only is the new shape faster, it also planes up earlier and accelerates to its top speed quicker.

The most notable innovation for 2007 is the use of a brand new material to replace the carbon - a material known as Technora. Technora is one of the newest and highest strength fibers available. Eight times stronger than steel and four times stronger than carbon it has an excellent abrasion resistance - ideal for board production. The tail of the new Pro Edition gets a carbon makeover which looks fabulous and makes a real statement when its on the beach.

The Full Wood Sandwich version and the Pro Edition both come with a sanded finish - although the gel coat and paint is greatly reduced on the Pro model - meaning an additional reduction in weight of 1kg over the FWS model.
