JP Freestyle Wave II 2007, the board that sets the standard
Category: Windsurf > Windsurfing Boards
Werner Gnigler has done it again proving that a best in test board of 2006 can be made even better. Great planing power and all-purpose use with a very high speed potential.
The windsurf magazines gave the Freestyle Wave 2006 some rave reviews. Windsurfing USA had this to say: "A standout for planing power and all-purpose use. Expert freestyle and wave testers liked it, and so did our back-and-forth free-riders – a rarity." and France's Planchemag said: "It is the most responsive board in this group and the most dynamic. Perfect to discover or push the limits in freestyle. In jumps, it offers an impressive take off which allows to fly higher than with a pure wave board. It is perfect for bump&jump and onshore wave conditions, it also sails very easy in side shore waves"
With reviews like that the Werner Gnigler and the rest of the JP development team have had a tough challenge on their hands trying to maintain such a high class board. But it looks as if they have managed it again.
Updated for 2007 with a slightly narrower outline the board goes quicker from rail to rail and reacts much faster to foot steering. The outline shape has been increased with slightly more curve between the straps and combined with the narrower tail means this range provides outstanding carving capabilities. The flavour this year throughout the entire JP Australia board range appears to be a reduction in overall width and a slight drop in volume, and the Freestyle Wave has had a similar treatment.
Less volume in the tail area by eliminating the bevel that was a key feature of 2006 - for some this may e an indication of a move away from the freestyle characteristics of this board - but JP are quick to point out that the FSW II provides an ideal all-round board with incredible freestyle tendencies. The scoop rocker line and deck have also been re-worked which means an even smoother ride in the rough stuff.
The boards come in either three or four strap configuration. In 4-strap outboard position th eboard feels very sporty and offers a very direct performance-oriented stance; wheras the inboard position is ideal for tricks and maneuvers.
