With courage, tenacity and all out ambition Kevin Pritchard finally takes the
coveted crown of world wavesailing champion for 2006.
WindsurfJournal caught up with Kevin just after his win and ran this
interview:-
What do you feel after this 3rd place in the Aloha Classic and
especially your title of PWA World Wave champion for
2006?
Kevin Pritchard: I am super content! This is
the result of much work and I am really happy to come out at the top. This is as
a dream which has become a reality. It is incredible, I am the wavesailing
champion of the world! It's certainly the most beautiful title a windsurfer can
have and that makes me very proud and very happy!
What kit did sail during this test?
KP:
I primarily used my Maui Sails Legend 5.3 and 5.7 m˛ and a new super Starboard
wave prototype with which I am very satisfied!
At the time of our first interview, right before the competition, you
seemed really stressed… How did you cope with the different the
heats?
KP: In fact, I was completely stressed for a
few days before the competition! But I knew what I had to do. In fact, it is the
kind of situation where one can almost realise your destiny by remaining
focused. In competition, I just just concentrated on my objective and it all
went according to plan.
What do you think of the performance of Ricardo Campello who finished
5th?
KP: In fact, Ricardo has been of invaluable
help to me in this competition taking out one of my principal competitors, Kauli
Seadi, he prevented him from reaching the title.I always knew that Ricardo
Campello was super a windsurfer in waves and its result does not surprise me at
all!
According to you, what qualities are necessary to become
champion of the world of waves?
KP: It makes be a
general-purpose super windsurfer. This year, we had two competitions sailing a
starboard tack, which always works for me. At the same time, I finish 3rd in
Pozo, a spot port side with 40 knotsof wind!
What do you think of the calendar PWA 2007 which was announced there
is little and in particular the presentation of new competition like
Colombia?
KP: All that I see for the moment, C’is
that L’one has a super calendar but which risks also D’to evolve/move! We will
see well…
Where would be the ideal wave world cup venue be for
you?
KP: For me, it would be really the dream if we
could go to run on spots like Fiji, Tahiti, Bali or L’Australia.
What are you working on for the next few
months?
KP: The competition season is finished, so
we are spending most of our time on research and development and the test! I
must validate the next sails of slalom in the weeks to come. C’is a large work
in particular on speed because I also develop the fins. The goal is to be ready
in 2007 to seriously attack the Antoine Albeau's title!
