Neil Pryde Windsurfing is delighted to announce that the current world speed-sailing record holder, Finian Maynard, has joined the Neil Pryde Windsurfing International Team.
Finian Maynard (KV11) joins Neil Pryde Windsurfing as the current holder of two outright world speed-sailing records – the 500m (48.70kts) and the nautical mile (39.97kts). In joining the Neil Pryde Windsurfing team, Finian will reinforce Neil Pryde Windsurfing’s commitment to breaking the 50 knot barrier, and in doing so take windsurfing to a new level on the international stage. In addition to speed-sailing, Finian is also an accomplished slalom and Formula sailor who will no doubt make his presence felt on the race course in 2006.
Mr. Neil Pryde commented; "we are very happy to have been able to come to an agreement with Finian. He is an outstanding sailor, and we believe that the combination of Finian and Neil Pryde equipment may be just what is needed to unlock the door to breaking the 50knot barrier."
Finian Maynard commented; "This is a dream move for me. The chance to work with the Robert Stroj and the Neil Pryde Design Centre and alongside other sailors in the Neil Pryde Team was a chance that I couldn’t pass up. I am looking forward to this new challenge and I hope 2006 brings with it great success."
Why did you choose Neil Pryde?
I chose NeilPryde because of the excellent progress of their RS racing program in the past four years. It appears that the new Neil Pryde RS:6 is also an excellent generation of race sail and I look forward to working with the Neil Pryde Design Center in developing sails to break the 50-knot barrier. This will be our focus.
Plans for 2006?
2006 can be summed up in one word: busy. I plan to be on Maui in January, Western Australia for February, March and April at the Canal in France before some promotional trips in May to Germany and Italy. This is quickly followed by the start of the summer speed and slalom seasons that are mainly based in Europe with events in Greece, Canary Islands, Switzerland and so on. The plan is then to follow through to the autumn speed season in Namibia and the Canal with the major slalom event of this time period taking place in Sylt, Germany. Frankly speaking, I want to win. That is harder to actually implement as a plan than it is to dream at night but I will do everything I can to try and break more speed world records and win competition speed and slalom contests.
